Gunfighters was finally approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to operate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In a letter dated March 12, 2018, the IRS confirmed the effective date of exemption as of June 19, 2017. For years the group has operated as a registered non-profit 501(c)(4). One primary difference is that as a 501(c)(3), donations made to Gunfighters for Hire can now be applied to income tax filings, which can include real estate, cash, automobiles, aircraft, etc.
The non-profit corporation filing, with the State of California, was approved on June 19, 2017, with a 501(c)(3) application being filed with the IRS on Aug. 17, 2017.
Gunfighters for Hire was formed in 1997 with the purpose of promoting western history (1850-1900) and gun safety while performing western themed skits. Currently there are approximately 25 members. Throughout the years the gunfighters have entertained thousands of visitors from around the world and have made donations to various non-profit organizations, including: Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, and John Wayne Cancer Research, to name a few. On October 7, 2017, Gunfighters for Hire began performing during the winter months, instead of the summer months, on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at 2:30 p.m. and will continue until the end of May. More information can be found at: www.gunfightersforhire.org.
